The Professional Examination Board was initially set-up as Pre Medical Test Board by Government of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1970. Later, in the year 1981, Pre Engineering Board was constituted. Soon after, in the year 1982 both these Boards were amalgamated and named as Professional Examination Board (PEB). Professional Examination Board by Govt. Order No.1325-1717-42-82 dated 17.04.1982 PEB has been assigned the responsibility of conducting entrance tests for admission to various colleges in the state. PEB presently organizes the following entrance tests: - PPT : For entrance to Polytechnic diploma courses
- PAT : For entrance to B.Tech. (Ag. Engg.), B.Sc. (Ag.), B.Sc. (Forestry), B.Sc. (Horticulture), B.Sc. (Ag. & Entrepreneurship)
- GNTST : For entrance to General Nursing Training (Only for girls)
- PNST: For entrance to B.Sc. Nursing Training (Only for girls)
- PAHUNT : For entrance to Pre-Ayurved, Homeopathic, Unani, Naturopathy & yoga degree courses.
- Pre B.Ed. : For entrance to Bachelor of Education and M.Ed, B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed. (Two Years) and B.Ed.-M.Ed. ( Combined Three Years)
- DAHET : For entrance to Diploma in Animal Husbandary
- P.V. & F.T. : entrance to Veterinary and Fishries
- SOE : For entrance to Schools of Excellence
- SOM : For entrance to Schools of Model
The Professional Examination Board is a self-financed, autonomous incorporated body of State Govt. The Government has re_constituted the Board of Directors for taking decisions on policy and organizational matters through Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board Act. 2007. The Board is a body corporate by the name of the Professional Examination Board and has perpetual succession and a common seal with power to acquire and hold property both movable and immovable and has the power to transfer any property held by it and to contract and do all other things necessary for the its constitution and may sue or sued in its corporate name. - Principal Secretary or Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh, School Education Department;
- Principal Secretary or Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Public Health and Family Welfare Department;
- Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal;
- Vice-Chancellor, Jawahar Lal Nehru Agriculture University, Jabalpur;
- Director, National Law Institute University, Bhopal;
- Commissioner, Higher Education;
- Director, Technical Education;
- Director, Indian Institute of Management, Indore;
- Director, Medical Education;
- Director, Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board
Nominated Members - One Vice-Chancellor of a University, from the Universities of the State of Madhya Pradesh running Management courses;
- One Principal or Director of an Autonomous Engineering College of the State;
- One Principal or Director from the Private Unaided Engineering Colleges of the State;
- One Principal from the Autonomous or Government Polytechnic Colleges of the State;
- One Principal or Director from the Private Sector Institutions offering Degree or diploma in Pharmacy;
- One Principal or Director from the Private Sector Institutions offering Management courses;
- One Principal or Director from the Private Sector Institutions offering Computer Application Courses;
- Two members of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly;
- Two persons representing interests not represented otherwise;
Provided that as far as possible and subject to availability, out of eleven members nominated one member each shall be from the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class. At the apex of the Board is the Chairman, an officer of the rank of Chief Secretary to Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. The Director of the Board is generally an IAS officer ; the Controller of the Board is generally a Senior Professor of an Engineering College. Besides these, Board has one Additional Director, One Deputy Director, One Finance Controller, Five Joint Controllers, Two Deputy Controllers, One Principal System Analyst, One Accounts Officer, one Assistant Controllers and One System Analyst who spearhead the various activities . एमपीऑनलाइन लिमिटेड, मध्यप्रदेश सरकार की ई-गवर्नेंस की एक महत्वपूर्ण पहल एवं संकल्पना है, जिसका उद्देश्य विभिन्न सरकारी विभागों की सेवाओं को सीधे आम नागरिक तक पहुंचाना है। एमपीऑनलाइन मध्यप्रदेश सरकार एवं टाटा कंसल्टेंसी सर्विसेस लिमिटेड का संयुक्त उपक्रम हैं। एमपीऑनलाइन मध्यप्रदेश सरकार का अधिकृत पोर्टल है, जिसके द्वारा विभिन्न सरकारी विभागों की सेवाएं विकसित कर नागरिकों को ऑनलाइन प्रदान की जा रही हैं। इसका गठन जुलाई 2006 में हुआ था, तब से अब तक यह मध्यप्रदेश के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में अपनी सेवाएँ प्रदान कर रहा हैं।

एमपीऑनलाइन मध्यप्रदेश के सभी 51 जिलों की 350 से अधिक तहसीलों में 28000 से अधिक कियोस्क/सीएससी के माध्यम से अपनी सेवाएं नागरिकों को ऑनलाइन उपलब्ध करा रहा हैं। एमपीऑनलाइन विभिन्न सरकारी विभागों से संबंधित सेवाएं जैसे मप्र माशिमं, विश्वविद्यालयों एवं कॉलेजों के लिए प्रवेश प्रक्रिया, धार्मिक संस्थाओं के लिए दान, मप्र के राष्ट्रीय पार्कों में भ्रमण हेतु ऑनलाइन टिकट बुकिंग, बिल भुगतान सुविधा, विभिन्न सरकारी विभागों में भर्ती हेतु आवेदन एवं ऑनलाइन परीक्षा प्रक्रिया सहित विभिन्न पाठ्यक्रमों मैं प्रवेश हेतु ऑनलाइन काउंसलिंग जैसी सेवाएँ प्रदान कर रहा हैं।
